PLEASE HAVE YOUR RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE AND RECYCLING
PLACED AT THE CURB BY 7:00 A.M. ON PICK-UP DAY.
Waste Management offers garbage carts in three sizes (35 gallon, 64 gallon, 96 gallon) for residential garbage collection. An amount depending on cart size is charged in addition to the quarterly drive-by service fee. No City garbage bags are needed when a Waste Management cart is used for curbside pick up. Those residents using the cart service may use City garbage bags for occasional extra garbage that won’t fit in the cart. Simply place the extra bags (tied shut) next to your cart on pick-up day. Contact Waste Management directly for pricing information or to request a cart for a residential location.
City of Okoboji garbage bags must be used for residential garbage if the Waste Management cart service is not used. Bags are to be tied shut and placed at the curb on pick-up day. The cost is $0.40 per 15 gallon bag, and $0.55 per 30 gallon bag. Large City bags may be purchased at the following Okoboji area outlets: Okoboji City Hall, Kum & Go (Okoboji); and Sunshine Foods (Milford). The small City bags may be purchased only at Okoboji City Hall.
Condominium Residents: All garbage placed in condominium dumpsters in the City of Okoboji MUST be in CITY OF OKOBOJI garbage bags.
The City offers a tag service to pick up and recycle white goods (appliances), brown goods (electronics), televisions, furniture items (stuffed only), mattresses, and tires. Tags may be purchased at City Hall year-round for these types of items. The tag fee price sheet is included on this web site. Call City Hall for more information.
Once a year the City of Okoboji provides “City Clean-Up Day” in early June. We will publicize the date each year on this web site. The Clean-Up Day is designed to pick up items not normally included for regular garbage collection, and is for residential only. NO HAZARDOUS WASTE is picked up at that time.
Hazardous waste may be taken to the Dickinson Recycling Facility located at 2260 220th Street (A34), Milford, Iowa. Please call ahead (712-338-2549) to make an appointment for such disposal. You may utilize this facility to recycle your own appliances, electronics, tires, and yard waste. Call the same number for information about the facility’s charges and hours of operation.
